A Better Weigh Inc. helps people lose weight through a customized program that combines federal Food and Drug Administration-approved medications, lipotropic formulas and proprietary supplements. And now the company, which currently has four locations in the Chicago area, is awarding franchises.

A Better Weigh, a Black female-owned weight loss franchise, was founded by entrepreneur Chanay Walton

Benefiting from her own experiences in losing 42 unwanted post-pregnancy pounds while adhering to a healthy lifestyle, licensed practical nurse Chanay Walton began sharing her knowledge with others by founding A Better Weigh in 2009. The four current sites serve more than 20,000 customers in two Chicago locations, one in Tinley Park, Ill., and one in Schererville, Ind. Walton hopes to expand her business model throughout the Midwest and then nationally by franchising.

According to Research and Markets 2020 figures, the global weight-loss industry should increase from $254.9 billion in 2021 to $377.3 billion by 2026. “Looking at the industry demand combined with our proven franchise model, our team looks forward to finding new business owners looking to capitalize on this trend with A Better Weigh,” Walton said in a news release about the franchise opportunity. “We are changing the way that people look at weight loss and weight management and making it something attainable and realistic, working with every patient to their unique goals and desired lifestyle.”

A Better Weigh has a team of physicians, nutritionists and coaches who provide solutions to weight loss and weight management in ways that are tailored to each client as an individual. Most programs include a guided meal plan, proprietary supplements, proprietary injections to stimulate metabolism and increase fat-burning processes, and consistent appointments and consultations with the company’s care team. Healthy body mass indexes (BMIs) are part of the focus.

The company’s website describes its services as “a simple, more sensible way to lose weight without strenuous activity or an overly restrictive lifestyle. Each physician-supervised program works by accelerating your metabolism to allow your body to finally shed its unwanted pounds.” Information on the website also says A Better Weigh’s “personalized programs are easy to start and surprisingly affordable.”

The news release states that franchisees should have a medical background and a passion to help people feel their best, along with customer-service acumen. The initial investment required for opening A Better Weigh franchise starts at approximately $108,000, which includes the franchise fee of $50,000.
